Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 3/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup molasses, unsulfured
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Coarse sugar for topping

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line a 9x13 inch glass baking dish with parchment paper and spray with baking spray. Set aside.

2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg. Set aside.

3. In a large bowl, add the butter, brown sugar, sugar and molasses. Mix until combined.

4. Add eggs and vanilla. Mix until well combined.

5. Slowly add the flour mixture and milk to the wet mixture. Beat with an electric mixer until just combined.

6. Spread batter evenly into prepared baking dish.

7. Sprinkle coarse sugar on top.

8. Bake for 20-22 minutes.

 

9. Remove from oven and cool completely before cutting into squares.
