Homemade Puff Pastry Cinnamon Twists

Flaky, buttery and completely addictive! Why use the frozen puff pastry sheets when you can easily make your own! Puff pastry can be used for many different recipes including this simple cinnamon twist!


Directions

1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, salt and baking powder.

2. Add the cubed butter.

3. Chop the butter together with the flour using a pastry cutter or your hands. You can also use a food processor.

4. Work the butter into the flour until most of the flour is combined with the butter into small pea shapes.

5. Add the sour cream.

6. With your hands or a spoon, mix the sour cream into the dough until it barely holds together.

7. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface.

8. Knead the dough a few times into a log.

9. Roll out the dough into a 10x12 rectangle.

10. Fold the dough into thirds like a letter.

11. Rotate 90 degrees and roll out to a rectangle again.

12. Fold the dough again into thirds like a letter.

13. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least an hour.

14. Preheat oven to 375 degrees and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.

15. Roll out chilled dough onto a lightly floured surface to an 8 x 10 rectangle. Trimming the edges if necessary.

16. Spread melted butter on top with a pastry brush and then sprinkle with cinnamon/sugar mixture.

17. Flip dough and repeat on the other side.

18. With a sharp knife and a ruler, cut 10 equal 1-inch pieces of dough.

19. Twist each piece 4 or 5 times and place on the baking sheet evenly spaced.

20. Place twists in the oven and bake for 16-18 minutes.

21. Remove from oven and let cool completely on a wire rack.

22. Sprinkle with extra cinnamon/sugar if desired.

  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
