Simple Applesauce Bread With Maple Glaze

With all the flavor of Fall, this easy bread is a sweet way to unwind with your favorite cup of tea. Great for breakfast and bake sales, too!

1. Gather ingredients and preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease four 6" x 3" mini-loaf pans with baking spray.

2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flours, brown sugar, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Set aside.

3. In a large bowl, combine sugar, eggs, and oil. Whisk until smooth.

4. Mix in sour cream, applesauce, and vanilla until fully incorporated.

5. Add flour mixture, mixing until ingredients are just combined. Do not overmix.

6. Pour batter into mini-loaf pans, dividing evenly.

7. Bake for 30-35 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into center of loaf comes out clean. Allow loaves to cool in pan for 10 minutes before turning out onto wire racks to cool completely.

8. Make the glaze: Combine confectioners sugar and maple syrup in a bowl. Mix in 1 Tsp milk. Add milk 1 tsp at a time, mixing until smooth and glaze is desired consistency.

9. Drizzle glaze over cooled loaves. Allow to set for 5 minutes.

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla 
Maple Glaze
  • 1 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons real maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons milk

Note: If glaze is too thick, add milk 1 tsp at a time. If glaze is too thin, add confectioners sugar 1 Tsp at a time. Be sure to whisk until smooth after each addition before adding more.
